چکیده
(a) (b) Fig. 3. (a) Observation of " 00 change of ice slab on duraluminum mold at 13. the other hand, quick freezing may produce a specific distribution of salt concentration in ice volume. However, the main result of the measurements, as it follows from Figs. 2 and 3, is the hysteresis of " 00 in the case of slow-cycle temperature change for many days. Our other experiments with different temperature conditions and with long-time measurements also indicated the effect of ambiguity of electromagnetic losses. The discussion on hysteresis of the real part of ice dielectric permittivity at 1 kHz was published earlier in [7]. It was observed for the ice that formed the 2% NaCl solution. This experiment lasted for about an hour. However, this observation was interpreted as the influence of the heat of phase transition. In our experiments, the analogous explanation is not true because there was a small amount of salt and a long period of keeping ice at a low-ambient temperature. We conclude that the hysteresis effect in our experiments may be connected with the existence of supercooling salt microscopic inclusions at temperatures lower than eutectic point, where they are in a liquid state. The possible supercooling temperature is determined by the shape and the size of liquid inclusions. It seems that their metamorphism determine the volume-liquid concentration and, consequently, the imaginary part of dielectric permittivity. The determination of the exact origin of electromagnetic-loss ambiguity requires a more detailed investigation of freshwater ice structure and physical and chemical peculiarities of inclusions. V. CONCLUSIONS There are significant time changes of the imaginary part of dielec-tric permittivity even for constant-value salt-impurity concentration in freshwater ice. Different values of electromagnetic loss were experimentally observed at the identical temperature. Thus, for the determination of ice dielectric loss, we must take into account the ice-time existence after water is frozen, the ice-temperature history, and the inclusions characteristics. Disregarding these conditions in previous papers led not so much to measurement errors, but to the description of ice with different structures. Therefore, the cryosphere remote sensing requires taking into account the time changeability of ice electromagnetic properties. REFERENCES [1] A. Regularized Image Reconstruction for Geostationary Atmospheric Sounders
The concept of microwave sounding from geostationary orbit is now over three decades old and many projects are currently under studies at frequency bands of oxygen (54, 118 and 425 GHz) and water vapor (183 and 380 GHz). The primary advantage of a Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) for remote sensing, compared with a Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), is that continuous monitoring is possible over a large are...
متن کاملTropospheric Phase Calibration in Millimeter Interferometry
We review millimeter interferometric phase variations caused by variations in the precipitable water vapor content of the troposphere, and we discuss techniques proposed to correct for these variations. We present observations with the Very Large Array at 22 GHz and 43 GHz designed to test these techniques. We find that both the Fast Switching and Paired Array calibration techniques are effecti...
متن کاملPassive mm-wave imaging from UAVs using aperture synthesis
Passive imaging using mm-waves offers very significant advantages in scientific and military surveillance. However, the relatively long wavelengths mean that for the resolutions that are typically sought, the input aperture of the imager needs to be quite large; typically in excess of one metre. Deployment of conventional dish antennae of these dimensions on small aircraft is highly problematic...
متن کاملResearch Activity on Synthetic Aperture Radiometry in CSSAR/CAS
Interferometric synthetic aperture radiometry is a relative new technique in the area of microwave earth observation to measure the brightness temperature distribution of the earth. It can enhance the spatial resolution of the passive microwave remote sensing effectively. Steady progress of this technology have been achieved in both one dimensional and two dimensional cases since 1990’s. The ty...

Damages due to subsidence such as destruction of watering system and agricultural fertile soil, wells increasing, damage to the roads, bridges and high ways and disordering in the water and gas supplying usually are irreparable and costly. As a huge amount bench marks of height network of Iran are placed in the subsidence area, changing their heights is a challenge for NCC. In this study, a new...
متن کاملAnalysis of RFI Identification and Mitigation in CAROLS Radiometer Data Using a Hardware Spectrum Analyser
A method to identify and mitigate radio frequency interference (RFI) in microwave radiometry based on the use of a spectrum analyzer has been developed. This method has been tested with CAROLS L-band airborne radiometer data that are strongly corrupted by RFI. RFI is a major limiting factor in passive microwave remote sensing interpretation. Although the 1.400-1.427 GHz bandwidth is protected, ...
